The Canalino Modular Learning Center is a newly constructed 60′ x 40′ permanent modular library building. In addition to the construction of the building, the project encompasses various associated tasks, including site work, such as grading, paving, site utilities, storm drainage, landscaping, irrigation, and electrical work, including installing fire alarm systems.

Project Description

The project scope involves replacing the roof trusses, installing new roof tiling, repairing the roof underlayment, removing the existing skylight, installing insulation as necessary, upgrading the ADA ramp and path of travel, improving striping and signage in the parking lot, and making ADA upgrades to the boys’ and girls’ locker rooms as well as the men’s and women’s restrooms. Additionally, accessibility upgrades comply with section 11B of the California Building Code.

Straw Bale Home

Project Description

California building code adopted straw bale construction in 2019. We utilized a post and beam frame with rice straw bales infill for the exterior walls. The straw bales were a byproduct of the rice industry in Northern California. One of the project goals was to build a superior home while reducing the carbon footprint of the overall project. Another goal was to make it easier for other people in Ventura County to permit and construct straw bale.
